Mechanical Pinch Valves
Mechanical pinch valves compress the elastomer sleeve with a horizontal bar driven by an adjusting mechanism — handwheel, pneumatic cylinder, hydraulic cylinder or electro-mechanical actuation — giving enclosed, positive pinch control where no compressed-air body chamber is used. The sleeve is the primary pressure-containing component and the only wetted part; the open valve is 100% full port with a smooth venturi maintained through closure, so slurries and abrasive media pass without cracks, crevices or dead spots. The range covers three lines — OV manual valves, VZ enclosed valves with mechanical and sensor measurement of flow regulation, and the RV ultra-heavy-duty line up to 1200 mm and 40 bar — with typical mechanical line pressures up to PN 10. Temperature limits are per-elastomer (from 180 F continuous for pure gum rubber to 400 F for Viton, unsatisfactory for steam), not a single band. Selection turns on the actuation mechanism against installation access, sleeve material against media and temperature (fatty oils, steam and petroleum each exclude specific elastomers), throttling duty — the sleeve acts as a variable orifice but life shortens near shutoff — and the maintenance model: the sleeve is the only wear part, replaced in line, with monthly lithium-grease lubrication and serrated mating flanges to prevent rubber creep.

Family specifications
| product lines | OV (manual, hand crank and air cylinder actuation), VZ (enclosed, mechanical and sensor flow measurement), RV (ultra-heavy duty) |
|---|---|
| size range | up to 1200 mm |
| pressure class | up to 40 Bar |
| pressure class | Typically up to PN 10 (line pressures rarely exceed 10 bar); pneumatic type up to 6 bar, RV ultra-heavy-duty line up to 40 bar (exceptional) |
| operation | Manual Handwheel, Two-sided pneumatic cylinder, Single-acting spring return pneumatic cylinder, Single-sided pneumatic spring with a pneumatic cylinder, Hydraulic cylinder, Electro-mechanical actuation |
| position sensing | electronic sensor and gauge to verify the exact amount of flow restriction (on many models) |
| sleeve materials | Neoprene, Natural Rubber, EPDM, Viton, Silicon, Nitrile, Hypalon, Butyle |
| end connections | Flanged (ANSI, DIN), Threaded (NPT, BSPP) |
| bore full port | 100% full port when completely open (no pressure drop); smooth venturi maintained through closure, no cracks, crevices or dead spots |
| pressure boundary | Sleeve is the primary pressure-containing component and the only component in contact with the process fluid; body/frame is housing and support only |
| sleeve construction | Vulcanized laminate: elastomer inner tube, high-strength nylon/polyester/Kevlar fabric reinforcement, exterior neoprene cover — vulcanized under pressure into one pressure-containing sleeve |
| body materials | Aluminum, cast iron, steel or stainless steel, plastic (POM, PVC) in small sizes |
| standards referenced | EN 558 (face-to-face dimensions), EN 1092-1 / ASME B16.5 (connecting flanges), ISO 5208 (leakage rates), ISO 1817 / ISO 37 (sleeve elastomer liquid-resistance and tensile tests) |
| sleeve temperature | Pure Gum Rubber: -50 to +180 F continuous, Neoprene: -50 to +230 F, Buna-N (NBR): -30 to +230 F, Chlorobutyl (CIIR): -50 to +250 F (300 F intermittent), Hypalon (CSM): -50 to +230 F, EPDM: -50 to +300 F continuous, +325 F surge; unsatisfactory with petroleum products, Viton (FKM): -10 to +400 F; unsatisfactory for steam service |
| throttling | Excellent control characteristics — usable as a variable orifice; the flow/control curve can be changed by swapping the sleeve; sleeve life shortens when throttling close to shutoff where throat velocity is highest |
| failure modes | Wrong elastomer for media (e.g. natural rubber reacting badly to fatty oils — use Nitrile), Blistering from over-temperature media, Vacuum applications: sleeve tears from the outside when over-pressurized, Split sleeve from foreign body or sharp object in the media flow, Over-pinching stresses fabric reinforcement — delamination or premature tearing, Permanent set/deformation from improper storage |
| maintenance | Sleeve is the only replacement part required — replaced in line, restoring the valve to like-new condition; manual valves should be lubricated and actuated monthly with high-quality lithium grease, greased in the full-closed position; a spare sleeve is a factory-recommended spare part; store spare sleeves cool, dry and away from ozone, light, electric motors and chemicals |
| installation constraint | Mating flanges should be serrated approx. 1/16 in x 90 deg — rubber creeps along smooth metal, PVC or PTFE flanges and eventually leaks |
| closure design | Symmetric closure (two jaws advancing simultaneously from above and below) spreads deformation better and extends sleeve life under throttling; asymmetric closure uses a single pinch bar |
| bevel gear rule | Bevel gears suggested on sizes larger than 6 in and over 75 psi |
| duty split | Mechanical type throttles better and is the type installed in mineral slurry and water-treatment duties; pneumatic type is the typical dosing/shutoff valve for solids conveying, hoppers and the food industry |
| mining duty media | With the proper sleeve material: cyanide, xanthates, sulfuric acid and caustic materials such as lithium and lime |
| floating closure mechanism | Floating pinch mechanism design reduces the risk of binding from corrosion or long periods of inactivity — relevant for normally-open standby lines |
| self cleaning flexing action | Flexing action of the resilient sleeve during operation breaks up residue and buildup on the sleeve interior; pinch valves are self-cleaning, full-ported, with no crevices or dead spots to clog |
| spare sleeve stocking | Manufacturer IOM recommends keeping a spare sleeve on hand as the sleeve is the expendable wear component; store sleeves away from ozone, sunlight, and chemicals to prevent deterioration |
| pressure dn15 dn100 | maximum 5 bar |
| pressure dn125 dn200 | maximum 3 bar |
| pressure dn250 | maximum 2 bar |
| ov manual rating | DN80, maximum 6 bar |
| vz manual sizes | up to 400mm |
| vz pressure classes | 1 bar, 6 bar, 10 bar, 16 bar, 25 bar, 40 bar |
| rv series envelope | Ultra-Heavy Duty Pinch Valves for pipe diameters up to 1200 mm and pressures up to 40 Bar |
| design mechanism | Metal horizontal bar lowered or raised by an adjusting screw restricts or opens the sleeve |

Ordering & documentation
Documents
Ask for the documentation set with the inquiry — typical items (material certificates, test reports to the listed inspection standard, dimensional drawings) are confirmed and supplied with the quotation.
Quotation
Send the medium, temperature, pressure, size and connection for a quotation-ready inquiry. Lead time, MOQ and price are confirmed at quotation, together with the documents to be supplied with the order.
Sample & supply
Supply terms, order quantities and lead time are agreed per order — state the destination country and required schedule with the inquiry.
Storage & shipping
Store valves with seats and seals protected from UV, ozone and deformation, and keep end-face protectors on until installation; storage limits and shipping arrangements for the selected materials are confirmed at quotation.
